What Is It?
Evopedia is an offline Wikipedia viewer for Linux and especially for
the Openmoko Freerunner and the Maemo platform.
An arbitrary browser can be used to search for titles and view the articles.
The geographical data in the articles is used to display a map of the articles.
This map automagically uses your saved tiles from tangoGPS
if you are offline and Openstreetmap tiles if you are online.
The images on Wikipedia are
not contained in the dump but if you are connected to the internet, they are
nevertheless shown. The project is based on the (abandoned)
Mokopedia project.
Evopedia 0.3
This version is still being tested. When it's ready, it will use a completely new storage engine that does not need a kernel module or superuser rights to start and nevertheless features faster search and smaller dumps. The source code is available at github. Information (and data dumps) can be found on the Maemo Wiki.

Download
Evopedia can be used with any Wikipedia language, you need to download the main software and additionally some Wikipedia dump in the language you prefer. Precompiled dumps for some languages can be found on this website. Except for the English Wikipedia, they should all easily fit on a SDHC. At the moment, there is unfortunately no dump of the English Wikipedia for Evopedia 0.2. Squashfs v4.0 is included in the Linux kernel from version 2.6.29 on, the dump for that version is recommended. Evopedia 0.2 dumps all use Suashfs v4.0.
Install the .ipk file, download one dump and put it in /media/card/wikipedia.squashfs. If you put it somewhere else, just edit /etc/evopedia.conf appropriately.
